These are from the Smithsonian's Museum of American History, taken the day before the inauguration. I didn't try one... Honestly, the best cupcake I've ever eaten (even better than NYC's Magnolia Bakery) was the day prior, from U Street's "cakelove". It was also an inauguration cupcake, called the "44". It was white on white, with a salted caramel drizzle. I even went back later that eveinng, but they were out... Fabulous. My mouth waters just writing about it!

OK...anything with salted caramel is just the best! I grew up back east and now wish I was able to be there to visit Cakelove too (love the name)! Thanks for all the info, the photo and the inspiration to make more salted caramel baked goods.
