Internationally renowned musician and Social Activist, Micheal Franti, is in Jamaica on a three day stop over. The artist who is currently on a world tour promoting his Reggae flavored album “Rebel Rockers”, took a break from his hectic schedule to perform up close and personal for Jamaican Fans on Thursday night at the world famous Redbones Jazz & Blues Café in Kingston.
A musical scientist at heart Michael has experimented with various blends of musical genres before emerging in the mid 90’s with a signature sound tinged with Reggae. This acoustic driven flavor has granted himself and his band known as SPEARHEAD, the opportunity to bring his thought provoking, conscious messaging to a global forum.
From Baghdad to Palestine, Micheal Franti and Spearhead have travelled the world to spread words of peace, justice and freedom to millions worldwide.
His current soirée in Jamaica is no different. “I felt the need to be connected with the people and feel the vibe, because Reggae is not just a sound, it’s a voice, it’s a culture”, Stated Franti in an exclusive interview with RiddimJamaica.
During the next three days Franti plans on doing some further work with legendary Riddim Twins, Sly & Robbie, who helped enhance his signature sound with a solid stamp of authenticity. “They are like student and professor,” said Franti, “They are always learning and always ready to teach”.
Despite his tight three day stay, he plans on visiting the world famous Passa-Passa street dance and Stone Love’s Weddy Weddy.
Micheal Franti performs unplugged at the Red Bones Jazz & Blues in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday, before leaving on Friday for Australia ,where he will continue his current tour dates.
