IN-N-Out Burger Hoax: April Fools Prank in New York
Elaborate April Fools Prank in New York City
April Fool's Day pranksters organized an elaborate hoax to convince New Yorkers that In-N-Out Burger was coming to Manhattan. The pranksters pasted an In-N-Out sign in front an empty storefront at 22nd and Broadway, dressing in In-N-Out uniforms and handing out flyers to excited passersby.
New York City has some of the best food on Planet Earth, as we all know, but it does not have In-N-Out Burger. Can you blame people for wanting to believe? Alas, it was not meant to be: the owner of the empty property says that no burger chain is moving in, and it looks like In-N-Out is indeed limited to locations where temperatures are above -17C in the winter.
The In-N-Out secret menu, though, is very, very real.
In-N-Out Burger Responds to Hoax
IN-N-Out Burger's website has a response to the hoax, hastily put up with no time to fix the CSS. In-N-Out Burger, with heavy heart, denounces the In-N-Out NYC rumor as false, and that there are no current plans to expand the legendary burger chain to New York.
Sorry. No doubt, though, New York City's harried residents-- especially those who hail from California, Nevada, Arizona, or Utah, where In-N-Out actually exists-- will continue to keep a torch lit.
There's always hope.
Rumors have circulated for years that the California chain was planning on someday hitting the East Coast. For their part, the 'workers' handing out fliers—who are wearing In-N-Out caps and aprons— said they were the real deal and that the stores will open on July 4, 2010.
We are very sorry for any confusion this may have caused and have no idea how it got started. We want to make sure everyone knows that it is false.
