NARTH Charges APA with being unscientific
Recently, the American Psychological Association adopted a resolution, which discourages practicioners from advising reparative therapy for homosexuality. Since 1973, the APA has dismissed homosexuality from its list of disorders in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ( DSM IV R).
According to NARTH ( National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality), this perspecitve is ingnoring scientific data, and is not progressive, but regressive. Of course, gay activists and progressives are not only wary of, but hostile to, NARTH and its dubious mission. But what if NARTH is correct, and a significant number of gays were not "born that way", nor freely chose this sexual identity, but have psychological confusion, exasberated by a politically correct cultural mileau which is saturated with P-Flag and the well meaning soft-hearted?
From Patrick B Craine's piece (8/5/09; LifeSiteNews.com):The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) refuted the APA's claims in a meta-analysis they issued in their Journal of Human Sexuality. They showed that over 100 years of research indicates that treatment for unwanted homosexuality can be beneficial. According to their analysis of the research, reparative therapy is effective and is generally not harmful. They demonstrate, further, that pathology has been found to be significantly greater in the homosexual community.
In a press release issued today, NARTH Vice-President of Operations David Pruden expressed appreciation for the APA's recognition of the importance of faith and religious diversity, but accused the organization of bias in its selection of the task force.
"The task force reflected virtually no ideological diversity," he says. "No APA member who offers reorientation therapy was allowed to join the task force. In fact, one can make the case that every member of the task force can be classified as an activist.
Craine sites an article about Evelyn Hooker, the leading spearheader of the homosexual liberation movement, as a reference. The piece reveal the contradictions which lay at the core of her methodology, and the fact that her studies were pre-determined by the gay agenda and its machinations. It is interesting to see the liberal agenda called into question ( although I do consider myself to be liberal) and the conflict of conservative and progressive values within so serious and emotive a subject as homosexuality. Said James Madison, one of our astute founding fathers, Anbition will counteract ambition; and so it is with the evolution of our democracy. Hegel spoke of a dialectic of history, in which thesis gives rise to antithesis, which fomrs a synthesis. We are on the brink of a new synthesis, that much is clear.
