A nation of Archie Bunkers

Archie Bunker was an idiot. He was a loudmouth crude moron from Queens, NY. If Mr. Bunker was a real person and lived in 2009 he would be labled a real American patriot and be a loyal listener to far rightwing radio. He would of course, be politically correct. Politically correct being the best I can guess, any person opposite of what the left says. Rightwing radio states that liberals drink red wine and eat brie cheese. Actually one is more likely to be a conservative if one does these things. Liberals also drink espresso, are gay and have pink hair. Real Americans, ie those who listen to far rightwing radio, watch NASCAR, vote for Sarah Palin and drink beer. Preferably not European because European equals liberal. The beer has to be brewed in America by real Americans from real American hops.

See, today, being too intellectual is something that is suspected. We don't want Americans who question ideas and traditions too much or if at all. Conservativism is about tradition and loyalty to authority. This is the essence of conservatism. The idea of smaller government conservatism is fairly new. It is a hallmark of economic libertarianism which split from liberalism a little over 200 years ago. Conservativism in social and religious theory goes back basically to the dawn of time. To the time of the caveman. Conservativism is the status quo, about limited rights and freedom at its' essence.
