Nazism Style Logic Against Our Children.
Opinion
Barry Artiste, Now Public Contributor
Michael Perley, Director of the Ontario Campaign For Action on Tobacco is leading the charge in his mistaken belief he Party is acting on behalf of all Canadians in his rant against Children being used as Drug Mules. Perley accuses all Parents who allow their children to be included in the Duty Free Fiasco whereby Families visiting foreign countries are alloted so many Duty Free goods to be brought into this Country, including cigarettes.
Parents visiting the United States on a shopping trip and bringing back goods are crossing the border with cigarettes and after tallying the math on the duty free dollar amount on the total of all the groceries and other stuff purchased in the United States each person as a family bought as a whole usually, include their children purchasing power, so if Timmy or Britney's allotment is lower and there is room to say allot some of Dad's cigarettes, snow tires etc into their childrens alloted amount, then families on a budget can top up their duty free allotment to the maximum allowed. Everyone with a friggin brain,(except Perley) including Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) knows the 5-year old kid aint gonna be smoking Mom and Dad's cigarettes, so in a knowing Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink, the CBSA must wave them through. End of Story !!
Now to move onto Mr. Perley, you see Mr. Perley's Action Partys actual hidden agenda is to Ban Cigarettes entirely in this country and the world, regardless of the freedoms Canadians enjoy, I compare him to another political party of the 1930's and 1940's whereby one individual insisted under threat of death or imprisonment that everyone conform to his ideology.
Now Mr. Perely enjoys the company of many other like minded organizations of "one thought process" in the mistaken belief that they above all else must speak for us as a whole because we are obviously too stupid to make decisions for ourselves, and these politically correct parties insist on protecting us from immorality, social ills, trans fats, alcohol, environment, playboy mags, non-hybrid cars, discipling our children to what we wish to watch on television.
These are the same parties who conduct polls amongst themselves on what is acceptable and then run to the media waving their Pro stance results saying See, we are correct, so Canada must conform, because 1,000 people we polled said so.
If these so called enforced info Nazi style parties of social correctness had their way, we would all be eating granola and tofu and living in recyclable cardboard boxes.
In ending, for Perely to accuse families of using their children as Drug Mules because a family may have thrown a carton of smokes into the childs duty free allotment leaves me to believe what's next? Will other Politically correct organizations start going through our Duty Free goods and state, Parents are alloting Trans Fats,Non Fair Trade Coffee, plastic bags, non organic chicken, child labour asian clothing goods in their childrens Duty Free goods, hence their children are complicit in the World's destruction as Social and Environmental Death Merchants.
So Give me a F*@king Break !

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day has ordered federal officials to find ways to close a legal gap that permits kids to import cigarettes.
Responding to a Sun Media report, Day's spokesman Melisa Leclerc said the government does not condone a policy that prevents border guards from seizing smokes brought in by minors from foreign countries.
"It is not the government of Canada's policy to allow children to import tobacco products into Canada," she said. "Minister Day has directed Canada Border Service Agency officials to work with Health Canada and provincial and territorial counterparts to determine if and when legislation could be amended to address the issue."
NO AUTHORITY
Last fall, CBSA quietly issued a memo to staff advising them they did not have legal authority to confiscate or hold tobacco products imported by minors.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. Very interesting opinion piece, and very informative, thanks! I had no idea about this issue, and I have to say, I agree with you.

Thanks for the Comments Amy, I have pretty much had it with those who in their Ranting Evangelical Fervour over everything they are against in the world, especially when the few go to the media and try to get governments elected by 30 million people to enforce their will.
Of the course the media just love to bait the public in all this, and bait governments as well in order for opposition parties to grandstand as well.
Thanks again Amy

Michael Perley is very 'inventive'. But as for every ban there is a Contra-Ban (my neologism) resulting in contraband, in this case cigarettes or any other goods.

Thanks for the insight my friend.
All leaders in their psuedo-social political style parties were most likely high school snitches and busybodies who got beaten up a lot in their youth by students fed up with their constant nagging of others on everything from the clothes other wore, their hairstyle to the food they ate to smoking or drinking sugary sodas. Once these Twits grow up, they certainly show they have not learned anything from their youth.

Excellent story Barry - and like Amy, I had no idea of this happening at all. Both America and Canada have turned into "baby-sitting governments" where they claim to "look after our best interests."
My question is, why can't we all look after our own best interests?
Admittedly, there is a section of society in both countries that perhaps do need to be "led by the ring in their nose" for their own good - but the huge majority of people are quite capable of looking after ourselves, thank you very much!
Great article Barry, thanks for informing us about this!

Thanks Swan, The US have the same rules as we do, yet we do not read rants from special interests slamming this practice. The Left Coast is well known for it's "We know what's best for everyone" stance on just about everyone on the planet. Rarely do Special Interest Groups put money where their mouth is, preferring the resistant taxpayers to pay for their idiotic causes and wanting the government to enforce it. Canada is not alone, US special interest are joined at the hip with their brethen of brown shirts of the Anal Left.
Ever wonder why Oregonians are not allowed to pum their own gas? Perhaps Oregon thinks two opposable thumbs of Oregonian drivers are not up to the task. I have a house in the Pearl District and it strikes me funny I cannot pump my own gas in my neighbourhood off 21st.
I wouldn't mind if their Full service meant checking my oils and tires, but they don't.

Ahaha, Swan, you pose an interesting question. One that has been at the center of debate and theory for decades among political scientists, now that we live in a post-materialist world.
Countless books have been written about this very question!

Love your story. I think that the erosion of personal rights to choice is more noticable to the 'older' generation - the older the more noticeable because there's more to make comparisons. Also, every time the Canadian Human Rights Code is changed under the guise of protecting our rights there's the opposite side of the coin of rights thereby being taken away. I could go into this in depth to show some of the insanities we have permitted all in the name of improvement to our society but anyone willing can do the research and find out the truth.
