Neil Gaiman's Sandman turns 20
Neil Gaiman's graphic masterpiece, Sandman, celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this week after it's first issue hit the stands back in November 1988. The 10 year series legitimized comics as a serious medium that The Preacher, Y the Last Man, Ex Machina, Transmetropolitan, Fell, Fables, 100 Bullets, Hawiian Dick, Hellboy, and many others have continued.
To promote the anniversary, Gaiman put on a reading of the series, with all the proceeds going to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
Veteran voice actor Tom Wayland and others will read from some of the most politically charged excerpts of THE SANDMAN written by *New York Times* best-selling author Neil Gaiman, in honor of the 20th Anniversary of THE SANDMAN.
Hosted by the CBLDF and Vertigo, the dramatic reading will be will be held it the Helen Mills Theater in New York City on Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available for a $50 donation to the CBLDF. Only 100 tickets are available to this special reading event.
If you have never read 'The Lord of Dreams' before, I suggest you start with Season of Mist as that's where the series really seemed gain steam. The earlier ones are still very good, but as Neil was still treating it as a horror/fantasy comic, they might scare you off before you really start to like them.

Neil's visit was a pure pleasure for our city. He was kind, caring and funny! He took time with each person to answer questions and draw pictures while signing. Check out my handbag he signed for me!
