New Michael Jackson Song 'This Is It' To Be Released
An unheard Michael Jackson song titled "This Is It" is to be released as a single next month, Sony Music Entertainment announced today.
The song, featuring backing vocals by Jackson's brothers, shares its title with the comeback concerts the King of Pop was rehearsing when he died in June. The track is also part of a two-disk album inspired by the upcoming concert documentary film of the same name, which chronicles Jackson's final days during the preparations for his planned comeback concerts. The film will arrive in theaters for a limited two-week run on Oct. 28.
A message posted on the singer's official website, Michaeljackson.com, revealed that the 'This Is It' album will be a two-disc set. The first will feature past hits by Jackson in the order they appear in the film, plus two versions of the new single. The second disc features previously-unreleased mixes of selected hits, plus a spoken word poem from Jackson entitled 'Planet Earth'.
It is undetermined as to when Jackson wrote and recorded the song, but the pop star had been working with artists like Akon and Will.i.am before his death.
The single, titled "This Is It" will be released on Oct. 12, while the two-disk album will be available internationally on Oct. 26 and North America on Oct. 27 through Sony Music Entertainment’s Columbia/Epic Label Group.
"This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows -- that Michael is one of God's greatest gifts," said John McClain, who co-produced the album and is also a co-executor of Jackson's estate.
