New Moon Director Chris Weitz Won't Direct Breaking Dawn
In recent interviews, The Twilight Saga "New Moon" director Chris Weitz has revealed he will not direct "Breaking Dawn." This news will come as a big disappointment to many Twilight fans who believed Weitz interpretation of the second Twilight novel through film was a big success. Weitz succeeded by closely following the story of "New Moon" down to minute details, and staying true to the characters and their interactions. While he gained great critical acclaim for his directing of "New Moon," it looks like Weitz will be passing the directing duties along to someone else for the fourth Twilight film - "Breaking Dawn."
Taylor Lautner And Kristen Stewart Wanted Weitz
With production of "Breaking Dawn" rumoured for the fall of 2010 or early 2011, fans of the vampire love story between Bella and Edward are worried that fourth film could fail without the right choice of director. The story is a pretty intense one, and without the proper treatment, it could become almost ridiculous on film. "New Moon" leading actors Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart had expressed on previous occasion how much they hoped Weitz would return for "Breaking Dawn" but it doesn't look likely. Stewart in particular had praised Weitz for his professionalism, collaborative nature, and serious treatment of the subject matter.
Chris Weitz On Directing Breaking Dawn:
"Of course when I was making New Moon and it was doing well, it was natural to think about doing other films in the series. But I haven't been pressured in any extreme way or anything," Weitz tells us, adding, "I think it's time for someone else to step up and do it, just because the third film was done by somebody else."
Weitz Values The Twilight Franchise's Future
Weitz believes that a new director for "Breaking Dawn" will give the film franchise the opportunity to gain even more success. He has revealed that his work on "New Moon" was consuming and acknowledges that delving into "Breaking Dawn" as a film project could leave him physically and emotionally drained. While Weitz's comments do suggest he won't be back for "Breaking Dawn," they also indicate how much he values the franchise and takes it seriously. Weitz wants "Breaking Dawn" to be the best film it can be, but with a new director.
