I happened to be walking by the Fremont Theater on Thursday night when people were waiting in line for the new Twilight movie. I couldn't be less interested in the flick, but it seemed like a prime opportunity to get a shot of the theater's marquee with some people-interest.

Just so it's clear, I chose this photo for the Scorgan 52 "elegance" them not because of the movie, or because of the people (who, for reasons I cannot derive, waited out in the cold for hours and paid actual money to see a teenage vampire/werewolf romance flick), but because of the neon lines on the theater itself.

The Fremont Theatre opened on Memorial Day, May 29, 1942, and is located on Monterey street in downtown San Luis Obispo, California. Apparently the grand opening included appearances by celebrities-of-the-day - including Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Constance Bennett, John Carroll, Nat Pendleton, Carole Bruce, Harry Davenport, Jackie Cooper, Charlie Ruggles, James Craig and Carole Landis, and boxer Max Baer - and a war bond rally on the county courthouse lawn across from the Fremont featuring Hollywood stars and servicemen from Camp Roberts and Camp San Luis Obispo.

The theater was still has only one large original main theater, which is painted inside. It remains the place to see big-screen debuts.
