New RADIOHEAD Album - You Name the Price
Once again Radiohead is ruffling record industry feathers. Being one of the biggest bands in the world, Radiohead can't seem to do anything without turning (regular) heads, but their planned methods of distribution for their new, completed album 'In Rainbows' are quite controversial.
The physical release of the album is said to be sometime in 2008, however the band will make the full album available independently via their website starting October 10th this year (pre-order available). As if that wasn't controversial enough, they are leaving it up to their fans to decide how much they pay for the downloaded album. Fans can also pre-order a collectors box-set of the album, delivered well before the official release, for about $80.
"It's up to you" pricing is rare outside of Museum, Remembrance Day Poppy and Busking circles, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the average price paid is. Now, if we could just convince our mechanics, plumbers and insurance providers to launch similar programs.
