New Star Trek Movie Posters Released!
I put this story in culture rather than tech and biz because I am, admittedly, a pretty big nerd. That means I enjoy Star Trek (Original series, TNG and most of DS9, if you're curious) and am anxiously awaiting the fresh reboot of the series that J. J. Abrahams is promising with the new Star Trek movie.
It also means I acknowledge the impact a series like Star Trek has had on our culture as a whole. The entire point of the show was that people of all nationalities and backgrounds work together, and the fact that the show is re-broadcasting old episodes in dozens of languages to this day is a testament to those ideas.
Bloggers are already buzzing about four new posters that have been released online, showing the four main characters of the new movie, which takes place before the original 60's series aired. It will follow the early adventures of James T. Kirk and his ship mates as they deal with mean-looking romulans for the first time.
I like the casting so far, we'll see how far this falls into action-movie shlock, but I have faith that Abrahams (maker of Lost) is as big a fan as I am. The movie is due out Christmas day.
Whats up guys!? Venkman here with 5 new posters for J.J. Abrams ‘Star Trek’ Movie! These will be Debuted in the upcoming Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con Special! You will actually be able to pick these poster up at Comic-Con when you visit the Paramount Booth, so if your going make sure to pick em’ up! A big thank you to TrekMovie.com for the heads up!
The good people at IESB just posted an article on the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, which reveals that the Star Trek poster from J.J. Abrams' upcoming movie was placed right alongside the official Comic Con banner (see photo), which means that maybe we can expect a few surprises during Comic Con 2008 regarding the Trek prequel movie.
Also, in the official Comic Con website, again the Star Trek poster appears.
My tricorder can honestly garner no clues about the direction of the movie franchise from this poster. Sure, a redesigned StarFleet logo. I am assuming it's a different era, where no one has gone gone, but I am sure there are many-a-trekker out there who can run this poster through the Universal Translator and let us RedShirts know what's up.
Though some people are less than happy with the lack of footage and interviews at comic-con:
While J.J. Abrams is giving Comic-Con and all the fans a big fuck you as he isn’t showing any footage from his upcoming Trek movie, that doesn’t mean the studio is stupid and is forgetting fandom matters. It seems Paramount is going to promote the movie by giving away posters and other unnamed items at a booth on the convention floor. Or, perhaps they’ll have people walking around handing out stuff.
Neat interview with JJ Abrams:
ComingSoon has an interview with JJ Abrams about the upcoming Star Trek movie. It’s pretty short, but it’s been a while since we’ve had any news about this one, so if you’re a fan, check it out. Here’s one snip from the Q&A:
