How ass-kissing is that?

'U2 has sold tens of millions of records, and Bono has become a leading crusader against poverty and disease in the developing world. Tuesday's event at least temporarily adds the band to a musical map that includes Duke Ellington Boulevard in Morningside Heights and Joey Ramone Place in the East Village.'

I initially found only one of their songs memorable, 'Pride (In the Name of Love)' and later discovered it was a tribute to Martin Luther King.

Those musicians spent all or the majority playing and living in the US.  U2 are Irish, incorporated in The Netherlands (to avoid taxes) and have no US citizenship.  Couldn't the fine citizens of NY find an American worthy of such a tribute?  America even outsources it's heros!  That is a sad commentary in my opinion.

It's a temporary thing anyway. A proper tribute doesn't discriminate on grounds of nationality, rather recognizes the benefits reaped by humanity as a result of the efforts of the honorees. There are enough 'fine' New Yorkers who are concerned enough to complain if they didn't approve. I don't see Rev. Al Sharpton or other activists complaining so far, do you ?

Many cities in America have a permanently named MLK Ave. or Blvd

Sad, close-minded commentary accompaied by blind hate :-(

Who do you think I hate?  Hate is a strong word usually reserved for commentary regarding people with wich one has had personal interaction.  You have never met me so on what grounds do you make such an accusation, Fred?  I stated facts.  I offered hatred toward no one.

Perhaps you could clarify the 'ass-kissing' comment then, because I don't see what it has to do with this recognition by the Mayor. Who was doing it ?

Just because someone kisses ass does not mean that I hate them Fred.
