Nickelback on Twitter: Joke's Over (Kind Of)

Nickelback is the band you love to hate. They got their name from working at Starbucks, and you probably hear them playing at corporate coffee chains. It's a circle-of-life thing. Anyway, Nickelback is sick and tired of all you haters dissing them on Twitter, so they (or their designated tweeter) are biting back.

Some examples of Nickelback striking back:

  • n11w836:"listening to the radio when spice girls came on so I changed the station and it was nickelback...obvi the radio wants me to rip off my ears"  Nickelback: "@n11w836 so did you? #missionaccomplished"
  • simetradon: "was driving down the street, and a @Nickelback song came on. I had an aneurism and violently shit myself at the same time. And my dog died." Nickelback: "@simetradon I bet it was the best day you've had in awhile. #yourwelcome"
  • SloanieGaines: "@Nickelback retire" Nickelback: "@SloanieGaines you're trying too hard. Get it together and make it count."
  • HannahGulyes: "If you like nickelback you're probably a douche bag." Nickelback: "@HannahGulyes just probably? That means there is doubt. That means you love. Atta girl."
  • kiimboslicee: "@abbyjensen4 nickelback makes me want to chop my ears off #worstbandever" Nickelback: "@kiimboslicee @abbyjensen4 did you do it yet? What's the holdup?"

Nickelback's comebacks are only kind of insulting (Sort of like how their music only kind of rocks! Zing!), but the band is doing it right: engaging haters in a way that doesn't make them look like jerks.

The Nickelback Twitter comebacks are also somewhat unexpected: how often do you get personal @replies from celebrities? Pretty much never. Twitter is a dumping ground for passive-aggressive swipes at pop-culture figures, and it's fun to see those who dis in a public forum get called on it.

Nickelback knows that people hate them, and they seem not to mind. Why should they, when they sell so many records? As the band itself said, "When people don't care is when you're in trouble".
