We don't know what was going on during Nicki Minaj's 2012 Grammys performance. We do know that she sang her new single "Roman Holiday," but everything else on stage was deeply confusing.

Minaj seems to have taken a page out of Madonna's playbook and mixed her performance with religious imagery and added in some of Lady Gaga's over-the-top theatrics. The Nicki Minaj Grammys performance saw her in a church-like setting and tied to a lab table a la Frankenstein. She managed to tie herself free in some sort of exorcism ritual. She also managed to levitate for some reason.

All in all, the Nicki Minaj Grammys 2012 performance was a hot mess. Don't bother trying to analyze it. It seems that Minaj had no interest in making a statement, only in garnering attention.
