The Hurt Locker Co-Producer Gets to Make Oscar Speech After Being Banned From the Oscars
Nicolas Chartier watched the Oscars 2010 ceremony from a viewing party hosted by WME Global Chief Graham Taylor and Mike Fleiss in Malibu as reported by Deadline, and as the co-producer was banned from attending the Oscars, he made his acceptance speech at the party. It was captured on video (see bottom of story).
Producer Lynette Howell told Mike Fleming of Deadline about what happened after it was announced that The Hurt Locker had won Best Picture:
He stayed in his seat while everyone else erupted, and then he just started jumping up and down, before standing up on this little white stool to give his speech. He listened as Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal and Greg Shapiro gave their speeches on the screen behind him.
Nicolas Chartier is one of four producers for the now Oscar winning film and he also put up some of the money to make the movie. However, his e-mails sent to various Academy members angered those who felt that he was trying to influence them to vote for the 'underdog' movie, as opposed to that '$500 million film' as he stated in his e-mail. The Academy does not allow any mailings that attempt to generate votes for one film by casting another in a negative light.
