The new Nightmare on Elm Street trailer is now live. The Nightmare on Elm Street remake has been hotly discussed in horror circles, as Jackie Earle Haley will be donning Freddy Kreuger's razor glove, replacing fright-flick legend Robert Englund. The trailer is pretty awesome: it definitely dials down the camp and cranks up the freak: Jackie Earle Haley gives Freddy a slightly different, creepier voice.

Based on the trailer, it appears as thought the new movie gets back to the general creepiness that inhabited the first of the franchise back in 1984. The subsequent films in the series had a more carnival atmosphere, and while they had their charms, they typically became wackier (and paler) versions of the original. One thing that is missing from this particular trailer, however, is Dokken. (Rhymes with "Rockin'!") Their song "Dream Warriors" was the official theme for "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors," and it's one of the most fantastic hair-metal film tie-ins of all time.

Jackie Earle Haley, who played Rorschach in Watchmen, is the new Freddy Krueger in the 2010 remake of the classic film. The Nightmare on Elm Street remake might just work better than the Halloween remakes. The role of Freddy Kreuger will be assumed by Jackie Earle Haley, taking over the role long played by Robert Englund. Englund has been involved in the process, and has given Earle his blessing, though it isn't known if he had a veto power over the decision. Still, if the trailer is accurate, and the Nightmare on Elm Street remake is as good as it looks, it might be worth a cash advance to see it.
