Scissors, Rock and Shadow Boxer by "Noord Nederlands Dans"
Have a greats time to meet him when in Indonesia, he said, "with a good SENSES, have a INTELLECTUALITY AND EMOTION presentation with my soul!"
On the future hopefully, Stephen Shropshire is one on part of Pioneers of contemporary dance (the offspring of modern and postmodern) include Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Doris Humphrey, Mary Wigman, Francois Delsarte, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, Rudolph von Laban, Loie Fuller, Jose Limon and Marie Rambert.
"Contemporary dance is a genre of concert dance that employs compositional philosophy, rather than choreography, to guide unchoreographed movement. It uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet, modern dance and postmodern dance, and it also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique".
In 1999 came to the Netherlands in Shropshire NND / Galili Dance. In his time as a dancer, he made eight choreographies for the company, including 'Ink', 'Figurine' and 'The Piper's Progress'. This last work in 2003 Shropshire won both the jury and the audience during the Luxembourg International Choreographers Competition Tendances. As a freelance choreographer, he has produced works for include Scapino Ballet Wales National Dance Company, Dance Company Krisztina de Châtel and the Holland Dance Festival and since January 2009 he was artistic director of Northern Dutch Dance.
Since 2009, the company has been under the artistic direction of "Stephen Shropshire" and continues to present physically thrilling programs that engage the emotions and intellect. Shropshire’s work, along with work by a new generation of young international choreographers, re-confirms the company’s position as one of the most exciting and original contemporary dance companies working in the Netherlands today. He is born and coming from America (Miami, 1972) graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City, led by Benjamin Harkarvy. During his training he studied choreography with Doris Rudko, Elizabeth Keen, Bessie Schonberg, and in 1992 he made his debut as a choreographer with the duet 'Mercy'.
The basicly from contemporary dance, and established in 1997 by the Dutch Ministry of Culture, Noord Nederlands Dans is based in Groningen, the Netherlands, and is the flagship company for the northern provinces of the country. The company has long been known for its athleticism, musicality and virtuosity being a frequent guest at foreign festivals and venues in countries such as Brazil, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Israel, Spain, Finland, Japan and Russia.
3 (three) choreography performances Noord Nederlandse was coming in Indonesia at ERASMUS HUIS, Jakarta on June 9 and 12, 2011. One of them by Roy Assaf.
Scene 1 : Scissors by "Stephen Shropshire" , An intelligent object, sharp and jagged and shaped to fit your hand. ‘It is a smart game of light and dark, line and form, performed in a rather classical style.
Scene 2 : Rock by " Roy Assaf" is Heavily, thoughtfully and Elegant performance. With music touch : Gustav mahler/Uri Caine, Pat Metheny and Handel/James Bowman.
Scene 3 : And the last performance by " Stephen Shropshire" - Shadow Boxer !
Inspired by the paintings of German artist Wolfgang Lettl made artistic director Stephen Shropshire choreographed "Shadow Boxer". A continuous flow of movement pushes the dancers to extremes in their battle against an invisible opponent. A confrontation that leads to a charged atmosphere on stage. The choreography calls on the technique and virtuosity of the dance ensemble, which post-minimalist music of American composer Mellits prevails.
In the last our interview, is possible the contemporary dance will be creat for kids, it's maybe will be much interesting and fenomenal! Everything is possible!
Well, we always waiting with new ideas on future and of course on the next years you will be coming to Indonesia again !
