Nude photo of 20 year old Madonna sells for $37,500 at auction

The photo of a nude 20-year old Madonna has sold at Christie's for $37,500. It is not known who bought the photo.

A nude photograph of a 20 year old Madonna will go up for auction next month at Christie's New York and is expected to fetch at least $10,000. There are two photographs; one is a nude and one isn't.

The full-frontal nude is a black-and-white image taken in 1979 by Lee Friedlander, which is one of a series of nudes.

A handful from the shoot appeared in Playboy magazine in 1985, Sales said. Christie's put price estimates for the photograph at $10,000 to $15,000.

The second photograph of Madonna was taken in the 1980s by Helmut Newton.

In the Newton photograph, which is in color, Madonna is wearing a short dress and black stockings with garters. The circumstances behind the photo shoot were not immediately clear.
