Horowitz Play Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 3 1978 Mov 3Part 1

George Frankle could well be a mini-Mozart in the making, but he has yet to decide if music is even his calling.

The lucky 13-year-old will have his short composition "Laboratory" performed by the New York Philharmonic as part of the orchestra's School Day Concert to be held on February 13th.

He's not sure what he wants to do when he grows up, but 13-year-old George Frankle (FRANK'-uhl) is getting a good jump on a music career.

The New York Philharmonic will play his short composition "Laboratory" next month.

George, an eighth-grader at Scarsdale Middle School in Scarsdale, N.Y., studies piano, viola and composition at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School. George says he's "kind of still deciding" what he wants to pursue for a career, but music is an option.

George's composition teacher heard the Philharmonic was looking for a young composer for its School Day Concert on Feb. 13, and George's two-minute piece was accepted.

He tweaked it a bit for the 90-piece orchestra.

George said Thursday: "I needed to add more instruments."

That should be quite an honor for him.

He is no Mozart, but a kid stuck in the whirlwind of his Mom's upscale Scarsdale Middle School obsessions with self-promotion. There were two other performances of NYC youth composers that were far more accomplished but received no press. How this made such "news" with everyone is a classic example of misinformation and parent hype. I feel sad for the kid.
