After the bogus, wacked and weak apology by the NY Post, it seems that a whole bunch of black Americans who are still pissed off with the NY Post and it's political cartoons. Well, maybe not all black folks, there are some folks, like Gov. Paterson loved their apology. Now the 'old-school" civil rights organization, the NAACP is getting involved. After making a weak statement regarding the NY Post at first. The leadership of the NAACP national office, seemed to have placed the finger up in the wind to test and see which way the winds of change were blowing on this issue.  http://tinyurl.com/apv95c

That is quiet the Speech and Sorry, I am not sure what is more dangerous the speech by Paterson or the Cartoon? The Cartoon is still freedom of expression and worth cartoons have been made about Bush using Apes. The Speech by Paterson is also freedom of expression. Do we want to abolish that right?

I'm a white American and I'm angry too and lots of us here in NYC are boycotting the Post. The article Sharpton put up on his website with statements from Spike Lee ends with a native New Yorker stating she will never buy the Post again. I'm with her on that. It was a rag. I was on the news saying I was boycotting, but I'm joining in with everyone and I'm done with that paper. I should have stuck to my first intuitions about it that its just so trashy its never worth purchasing.

Everyone can sign the NAACP's petition against the Post here:

Great article.

P.S. I'm a white American, but I'm a life long democrat and I love the civil rights movement second to nothing in our history and Barack Obama is my president, too. I voted, I donated, I got one of the commemorative invitations to the inauguartion and I'm from Kansas...Barack Obama is our president, man, his mother is from my state. He's our president. Just like Spike Lee said this hurts everyone.

Was the cartoon depicting Condeleeza Rice as a slave working in her master's house ever seen as racist?

Selective rage doesn't mean that the present objectives are wrong, but why no objection to the racist portrayal of Ms Rice?

Sharpton Calls For FCC To Investigate Post's Owner

2009_02_sharpton2.jpg The Reverend Al Sharpton is taking his complaints about the NY Post's controversial editorial cartoon to Washington D.C. His organization, the National Action Network, wants to collect 1 million email signatures in support of an FCC investigation into Post owner News Corp.'s waiver that allows they to control multiple TV stations and newspapers in one city, noting, "This seems to give an imbalanced monopoly to the public airwaves and an imbalance in commercial speech, in particular, in light of their blatant insensitivity to issues of race (i.e. the N.Y. Post Cartoon) and bias through the use of those publicly owned and federally licensed communication tools." The Daily News also reports that students at Medgar Evars College in Brooklyn shut down their MySpace pages and burnt copies of the post; Marie Antoine, president of the student government association, said, "We are the ones who are putting money in their pockets. They have treated us like animals." source: gothamist
