NEW YORK - There's a secret buzzing around the rooftops and backyard gardens of New York.

Despite city regulations prohibiting it, hundreds of New Yorkers have kept beehives on rooftops and backyard gardens for years, defying the law in their efforts to create something sustainable in the urban environment.

They're people like 61-year-old Deborah Romano, a gardener and first-time beekeeper in Brooklyn. She had hopes of selling honey at the city's various green markets — but that dream was put on hold when a complaint drew city inspectors, she was ordered to pay a fine and her hive was removed.

I Challenge President Obama to a "Buzz off"

I was keeping honeybees, long before it was cool...
This is my article from last year...

Don Mashak 's Thoughts on Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder

My current genetic line has lasted 3 seasons with no chemical treatments for common bee ailments.  Heavy Losses but a naturally resistent bee is the result.

Say no to pharmaceutical companies!

I challenge President Obama to a shirtless, shorts and shoes only top to bottom hive inspection.  Winner gets to decide whether Cap and Trade Passes... If I win, Cap and Trade dies!

Winner to  be determined by whoever gives up first or has the least number
of stings when done.

Respectfully,

What, blaming Obama for a New York city ordinance law? Un-Beelievable, lol

Hello Babel-Fish:

Actually it was playing on the reference to Obama setting up a colony of bees at the White House?

And it was a literary device to get people that might not ordinarily read anthing about Cap and Trade aka Carbon Tax aka Al Gore BS, to read about Cap and Trade.

They are going to destroy this country yet.

I would blame Obama for not funding more Colony Collapse Disorder research. A third of the food on your table requires the activities of honeybees.

Respectfully,

I grew up with my grandpa raising bees.  Anyone that actually does it for real is quite a humanitarian.  Keep the bees alive!  I need my honey on my oatmeal every morning.WOW - The memories...  What a strange day to bump into this blog...Lori

Thanks Lori,

Actually my grandfather also introduced me to honeybees also.

Something needs to be done to save the honeybee and our government just keeps cutting the funding.
