Barack Obama was the Change candidate, and was elected so roundly mainly because our nation has a plethora of issues which have gone unaddressed for too long. One of these is public transportation. . .
With the soaring fuel costs, high car insurance rates, and the expense of leasing and maintaing cars ( not to mention the DUI rates) we need an increase and effiecency in public transportation as never before. Barack Obama is the one for the job.

From Steven Tarlow's, Finally! American High Speed Rail :
“Imagine whisking through towns at speeds over 100 miles an hour, walking only a few steps to public transportation, and ending up just blocks from your destination,” President Obama said. “It is happening right now, it’s been happening for decades. The problem is, it’s been happening elsewhere, not here.”Extensive expansion of America’s high-speed rail system will be a key part of the most dramatic changes made to America’s infrastructure since President Eisenhower started the Interstate Highway system in the 1950s. This won’t immediately equal the systems that exist in Europe and Asia, but it will be a strong first step.
“This plan is realistic,” Obama said. Rail spending will provide jobs that “can’t be outsourced,” help reduce air pollution and make America more competitive for both businesses and tourists.
