Obama Recruits Sarah Jessica Parker & Anna Wintour To Arts Panel
President Barack Obama has recruited "Sex and the City" actress Sarah Jessica Parker and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour to the Committee on Arts and the Humanities. The arts committee, chaired by First Lady Michelle Obama, consists of 25 members who are involved and interested in the entertainment industry.
Panel members of the committee are responsible for cultural diplomacy, development of the arts, and promoting the arts in an educational context. Parker and Wintour will certainly bring a flair for fashion and style to Obama's committee.
The arts and humanities committee was first set up in 1982 during the presidency of Ronald Reagan, a former Hollywood actor.
Its role is to engage the public and business in the arts and it works with projects including the Youth Orchestra of the Americas and the National Book Festival.
Speaking about her role on the committee Michelle Obama said: "The arts are not just a nice thing to have or to do if there is free time or if one can afford it."
The Committee on Arts and the Humanities works with organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities respectively in order to facilitate connections on cultural projects.
Although there have been rumors circulating that Wintour would leave her job as editor at US Vogue, it has been confirmed that she will join Obama's committee in addition to keeping her job at Vogue.
