Obama Tours Blue Mosque in Turkey

Yahoo News reports :

He combined his visit to the Blue Mosque with a tour of the 6th-century Hagia Sophia church, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture across the Islamic edifice. The church was converted to a mosque when the Ottomans conquered Istanbul in 1453, and was finally transformed into a museum in the 1930s, still featuring both biblical paintings and Islamic scriptures.

Obama also met with university students  (Now Public report) before wrapping up his two-day visit to Turkey and his début trip to Europe later on Tuesday.

When I asked that question, your highlighted piece was not in a highlight box; I don't just go around asking that question. Nice to see it is now though.

Thanks, Amy. It was a joke really - I just didn't use the tool, but fixed it after your message rather than delete the whole thing.

The church was "converted" at the point of a sword.

The Mosque in Jersualem, the famous one where Mohammed went up into heaven,  was actually built by Byzantine Christians at the bidding of their Muslims masters.

I think you mentioned that in an earlier story. Thanks anyway, Roy !
