Obama Wax Figure Unveiling at London Madame Tussauds
Many of us have taken photos next to the wax replicas of our favourite celebrities at Madame Tussauds. Since Marie Tussauds opened the first wax museum in London, UK in 1836, seven other locations around the world have been added, making Madame Tussauds a major tourist attraction.
Who is the latest celebrity to be sculpted in wax? None other than President-elect Barack Obama. He will be placed alongside world leaders such as Vladmir Putin, Tony Blair and Nicolas Sarkozy, in London.
Visitors can get up close and personal with the world's most powerful man in a recreation of the Oval office.
They can stand behind the Resolute desk used by presidents since 1880 and pace the American eagle-patterned carpet.
The figure of Mr Obama will be in an informal and relaxed pose, smiling, with his arms casually folded and dressed in a tailored suit.
As part of Obama's inauguration celebrations, Madame Tussauds will be waiving its entrance fee to US citizens visiting the London branch.
The London attraction will waive its entrance fee, which starts at £12.23, to American citizens on January 20, to celebrate the debut of its wax figure of the president-elect.
That's not all! The Washington D.C. chapter is currently selling limited-edition Inaugural Packages for January 20. Would you be interested in this Presidential Package?
Celebrate 2009’s historic Inauguration with Madame Tussauds Limited Edition Presidential Package and leave Washington D.C. with a photograph that features you personally congratulating America’s 44th Commander in Chief, Barack Obama. You don’t want to be the only person to leave Washington D.C. Inaugural Weekend without it! Package cost is $50.00 and includes admission ticket, Madame Tussauds Souvenir Guide Book, Barack Obama Inaugural Pin, a special Inaugural Wax Hand, photo with our President Obama figure, and a Decorative gift box/bag.
I sure wouldn't spend $50 on this package. D.C. bloggers share their thoughts:
We noticed recently that they have knocked their entry price down quite a bit and it is now only $10 for an adult admission (down from $18). Advertised as a “Special Winter Promotion,” we’re wondering if this is a sign of trouble?
