In the last week the rumour mill has started to spark discussions as to whether this will be the last season of the primetime TV series The Office. The show is currently in its sixth season with good ratings, but plotlines are wearing thin. The Office could be heading towards its series finale. Now die-hard fans of The Office are starting to ask: Is this the last season of The Office? Is the Office Ending?

A few things have caused these concerns to arise in the last few weeks. For one thing, the most recent episode which claimed to be "new" was simply a clip show that recycled old material. The plotlines and storylines within the sixth season episodes seem to be re-hashing old material. Tonight's episode of The Office - The Banker, was a mashup of old clips from The Office when viewers were expecting a brand new episode to mark the series return from a winter hiatus. On the other hand, The Office pulls in competitive ratings. In light of the recent late night drama between Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien, it doesn't seem likely that another big change is currently in the works when The Office draws in good ratings.

For fans of the show, it has sometimes become a struggle to stay interested in what is taking place during the sixth season of The Office. Sure, plenty of the familiar characters are still there, and with Steve Carell on board there are always going to be laughs in the episodes. The problem is that even the most die-hard fans of the show have to admit that it has lost a little something in the sixth season.

The US edition of what began as popular TV show in the UK has seen widespread success with American viewers in its formative years. The US edition of The Office has continued to draw in decent ratings, however, with 9.24 million viewers for its second to most recent episode. These ratings are competitive with the likes of ABC network's Grey's Anatomy and the CBS network's CSI.

The plotlines seem to be drifting though according to some viewers, and fans are wondering how much longer their show is going to survive on primetime NBC. While front man Steve Carell continues to generate most of the laughs on the show, there is still the possibility that this could be the last season of The Office. NBC will likely hold onto the show if it can maintain its current ratings, but fans are hoping for newer and fresher episodes. This will be crucial to keep ratings up and to keep the show's six year viewership if the show is to head into a seventh season. The Office has not yet been renewed for a seventh season.
