Opinion
Barry Artiste, Now Public Grossed Out!

You know they do, but did the National Post really, really have to go into detail on this.  I damn near spewed my coffee all over my monitor.

I know my Kids get grossed out when we as parents would kiss and get lovely, they would go "Gross"...Well that's a given.  But seriously 90 year olds and Viagra, well that's just nasty.

Does an elderly couple have a right to a sex life?

Bob's family was horrified at the idea that his relationship with Dorothy might have become sexual. At his age, they wouldn't have thought it possible. But when Bob's son walked in and saw his dad's 82-year-old girlfriend performing oral sex on his 95-year-old father last December, incredulity turned into panic. "I didn't know where this was going to end," said the manager of the assisted-living facility where Bob and Dorothy lived. "It was pretty volatile."

Because both Bob and Dorothy suffer from dementia, the son assumed that his father didn't fully understand what was going on. And his cellphone call reporting the scene he'd happened upon would have been funny, the manager said, if the consequences hadn't been so serious. "He was going, 'She had her mouth on my dad's penis! And it's not even clean!'" Bob's son became determined to keep the two apart and asked the facility's staff to ensure that they were never left alone together.

Errr, I have issues with the headline, Barry--let alone the age-ism. Life is life at any age, and why not celebrate it, and celebrate love, if you're lucky enough to find it? Hey, when I'm 90 maybe I'll have a boytoy of 70 or so.     ;}

Heh, the headline's a play on the new movie that's received a lot of controversy lately, 'Young People F --- ing'.

I have zero problem with the whole sex thing, I mean you can sleep with your significant other if you're 120 if you're capable, so really, who cares?

But I think there is a point to be made about illness and dementia...I just have trouble with stopping people from doing what they want to do when it doesn't hurt anyone. There are similar conversations going on right now with regards to the mentally disabled and other people whose faculties may not be considered the norm.

Heh, I didn't know about the movie, sorry Barry.

The son was a real jerk, IMHO, and I'd like to use a stronger word.

One does reach a point where it's nature vs medicine, though I'll tell you what: should I be fortunate enough to reach 90, I like to think that I'll have the overall health to be reaching for that bottle of blue pills, because I probably would. I want to be one of those Jack-Palance seniors who can do one-arm push-ups.

I took Peps advice and changed the New Headline, to a more appropriate title, regardless of the Medias title.  Though growing old together is heartwarming, and we all know sex is important, it is just the images it  scorches into my memory, that..... well you know, tests my Gag reflex.  As for Jack Palance, sure wouldn't we all like to be him.

But when, for instance show 60 year old actors such as a James Bond type bedding a 21 year old girl just out of their teens, something inside make me want to ............. ah who am I kidding, the lucky bastards!!

I do thank all of you for your comments.
