Ontario Police Pay Tribute To Fallen Comrades: Remembrance - Heroes In Life Not Death
Thousands of police officers from across the province gathered at Queen's Park in Toronto today, as three names were added to the Police Memorial during the Ninth Annual Ontario Police Memorial Foundation Ceremony.
43 year old Constable Robert Plunkett, a 22 year veteran of York Regional Police was killed on August 2nd 2007, 31 year old Constable Edward McMaster of the Toronto Police, died on April 24, 1935, and 36 year old Highway Traffic Officer Leigh Wilkinson Metcalfe of the Department of Highways Grimsby, died on October 17, 1927.
"It takes a special person kind of person to face danger, to take speeders off our highways, to protect our kids from drug dealers, to keep our communities safe," Said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
234 police officers are now listed on the Ontario Police Memorial Wall which was dedicated on May 7, 2000. The Annual Memorial Service is held each year on the first Sunday of May.
