Oprah and Tyra Take on Dating Violence in Rihanna Related Special
Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks have joined forces to take on dating violence in an hour long special presentation of the Oprah show this week. The special program was triggered by the Chris Brown and Rihanna domestic assault case now before a Los Angeles court.
Oprah has already come out and expressed her disappointment that Rihanna chose to reunite with Chris Brown so soon after the abuse. The talk show icon wanted to present the cycle of dating violence to her viewers so they may better understand why the reconciliation occurred... and why it is so dangerous.
Rihanna's reconciliation with Brown has triggered much debate among fans of the pair and Oprah is hoping to turn a terrible tragedy into something good by educating her viewers about the emotional intricacies of domestic violence.
If nothing good can come of the abuse for Rihanna, Oprah and Tyra hope that her impressionable fans can avoid following in her footsteps and that women in similar situations will find the strength to get out of their relationships.
The special Oprah presentation will discuss dating violence and abuse in all of its ugly manifestations with the hope that viewers can be shown how to recognize patterns of abuse in their own relationships in time to get help.
Dedicated to "all of the Rihannas of the world" the Oprah/Tyra dating abuse special will air this week.
The hourlong episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will air live from Chicago on Thursday. Winfrey offered Rihanna advice on her Friday show, saying, "Heal yourself first and also, love doesn't hurt." She also told the couple they should seek counseling.
Winfrey says the Thursday episode is "dedicated to all the Rihannas of the world" and will include guest Tyra Banks.
A Los Angeles police affidavit alleges that on Feb. 8, Brown punched, bit and choked Rihanna until she nearly lost consciousness. He has been charged with two felonies and will be arraigned in April.

As Founder and CEO of You're Living Proof, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that assists survivors of domestic violence, I want to say KUDOS for a job well done on this broadcast featuring the dynamics of family abuse.
The Squeaky Wheel Project is a program that we have begun to help victims, particularly children and teens victims break the silence surrounding domestic violence. Fundamental to this intervention program is a book we have published called Squeaky Speaks, A Coloring & Activity Book for Children Surviving Domestic Violence.
