By day two of Oprah’s new vegan life, she was extolling its virtues to her legions of fans.
“Wow, wow, wow! I never imagined meatless meals could be so satisfying,” she wrote.

World leaders are accepting the fact that leading a vegetarian diet is the only way to help the Planet. Recently Oprah went vegan.

“How can you say you’re trying to spiritually evolve, without even a thought about what happens to the animals whose lives are sacrificed in the name of gluttony?’

Its simple, the livestock industry accounts for the largest release of CO2 in the atmosphere - the best and quickest solution to mitigating global warming is to lead a plant based diet.

Dr. James Hansen, climatologist and Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Institute for Space Studies spoke of the urgency of addressing climate change, "We have already passed into the dangerous zone"

He went onto further say that if such gas emission are not reduced immediately "We would be sending the planet toward an ice free stat. We would....be creating a very different planet, and chaos for our children."

The shocking conclusion, documented in a paper2 I have written with several of the world's leading climate experts, is that the safe level of atmospheric carbon dioxide is no more than 350 ppm (parts per million), and it may be less. Carbon dioxide amount is already 385 ppm and rising about 2 ppm per year. Shocking corollary: the oft-stated goal to keep global warming less than two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) is a recipe for global disaster, not salvation.

Paul McCartney is promoting that the Western World adopt a vegetarian diet to help mitigate climate change so that we have a future.

He said recently: “Livestock farming is one of the biggest destroyers of the planet. When you see the Amazon being cut down for hamburger cattle, that’s pretty obvious.”

“And it’s all done in the name of something that benefits humans, when in fact it’s the opposite. It’s all about attitudes, no one thinks they’re the one who has to change.”

While I'm not for the establishment of large animal operations, I believe the largest contributor of CO2 to the atmosphere is volcanoes.  Let's not get into a big finger pointing exercise about who is damaging the earth the most.  When celebrity figures like Sir Paul and Oprah fly around the world they are damaging the earth in a big way, much more so than the keeper of a few cows.

Animals main contribution was so far Methane gas. Volcanos are a great source of CO2 and S2, S3, S4 and S8 are emitted by Volcanos as well and highly toxic for all Live forms.

Due to global warming though, we have now the perma frost melting and causing the release of massive amounts of Methane Gas form now exposed organic matter that the ice kept froze for millions of years in some areas.

Changing live stock numbers will help, no doubt and any thing that may help should be done, however it is only cosmetic and wont fix the problem nor save us.

Not to speak of all the pollution being created by wars.

To point fingers at air travel and volcanos and not take responsibility for consumption of meat is a bit ridiculous when you ask people to not point fingers.  The 2006 UN report "Livestock's Long Shadow" claims that  livestock accounts for 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions- more than the entire transportation industry on the planet.  While you may not be for the establishment of large animal operations- that is what exists.  The industry is enormous in scope.  26% of ice and water free land on earth is used for livestock grazing.  33% of all arable land on earth is dedicated to producing fodder for livestock.  60-70 % of the amazon was deforested for livestock grazing.  Not to mention the emissions used in farm equipment, processing plants, transportation for distribution, refrigeration.  All of these wastes compound as the consumption of meat increases in the human diet.   The average person eats 90.3 lbs of meat each year- that has doubled since 1950.  People are eating more meat and that demand is causing an acceleration of devastation on many levels- air, water, disease, access to food.  When something is glaringly wrong you adapt your lifestyle or pay the consequences.

Many modern illnesses are caused by Pollution, followed by mall nutrition or rather abusive nutrition such as to much alcohol, to much Meat and fat.

Many illnesses could easely be avoided or cured if we would stop drinking alcohol and reducing fat and meat consumption by 95% of what the Industrial World is consuming now on average per capita.

I wonder how many vegetarians wear leather shoes or carry leather purses.  Being a vegetarian is a choice.  Oprah and Sir Paul have been on bandwagons before, without considering consequences for others.

I would also like to find out what we should do with all the domesticated livestock.  Do we kill them?  turn them lose?

This is misleading on many counts: first the facts: it is true that reducing meat, fat and alcohol will have enormous health benefits. Also add in stopping smoking and working out three times a week and walking or cycling places, and you are on the way to maximum health. But to say that you should stop eating all animal or fish products, is plain wrong from a nutritional standpoint. And if you think turning the entire world's population over to vegetarian diets is going to be less polluting, you are also kidding yourself (to stay healthy, you have to consume large quantities of pulses, veggies). Ignore the extremists, but I do agree we can seriously reduce most illnesses and in turn drastically cut back health care costs by eating better and exercising more. That is scientifically proven.

McCartney WARNS Western World????

Where do you get these headlines???

The WESTERN world is not the only country which consumes beef.

Try ranting against factory farms.  One of my best friends is a very small cattle rancher, usually having around 130 cattle on the average. His family has been farming for generations.

It's a choice, not a crime.

Eating red meat more than once a week isn't a good idea..but our oceans are being fished out...try ranting against fish consumption.

Thanks for this.  I didn't know she went Vegan, it wasn't mentioned on her twitter feed.  She has over a million followers, BTW!  Yea Oprah!

Woaw - ok, where to start...Perhaps with the latest - Roy C -

Vegan, that was just on the web site I sourced - not sure about her wearing leather.

Thank you for your comments Mr. Roy C

Art_By_Alida - seems you are infatuated with the headlines - The Sir Paul McCartney statement of warning the western world was on the site I sourced.

To be particular the Western World is not a country - he is talking about the Western World, combining many countries and continents.

Everything that we do in life is a choice, you are correct it is not crime. The amount of carbon that the livestock industry creates on a whole IS - this encompasses everything - to clearing land, to raising the food for the cattle, to the waste it produces in polluting the water ways to the transportation of it to various locations.

It is the livestock industry as a whole, my father is a dairy farmer, I do not stick up for him. I respect him as a person, as he has many nobel characteristics. Though, the farm is a disgrace, what he is promoting is a shame. All farming is not right - it pollutes to much, and those that say otherwise have to read more.

Just do not be apathetic in your life - do your own research on everything. The worst is being apathetic then trying to make excuses, especially for other people. Its a bad habit.

The seas are a terrible, you are correct, perhaps I will present something. There are now dead zones in the ocean - that is - sea life can not breath in these areas. To try and breath, they end up beaching themselves. Can you imagine, the only way for these animals to live is what they think is H2O is land. As fishing is terrible, it is caused by the Earth getting hotter that these 'Dead Zones' exists. The CO2 released into the atmosphere is warming the Earth's atmosphere, which in turn is melting the ice, which in turn is relaesing Methane. This gas will be a steriod injection into the atmosphere that will have dire remafactions.

Iffy - I thank you for your comments. But I do not understand what you are saying - it does not relate to the article.I do not talk about health - if it is in the article, perhaps it is a quote.
But do not be so naive to think that the health benefits for leading a vegetarian diet is bad. It is better - I was ill and I spoke to the doctor about being a vegan and if it was ok. He actually recommended it. More so, I have been in contact with other people that have not been so well, asked a similar question to their doctors to get the same response. The ramifications of smoking and alcohol is terrible - they should be banned all together, they cause plenty of ailments and promote people into situations that they would not have been in before.I am only here to serve a message - the only way this planet is going to correct itself is to lead a vegan diet. It will put a stop to lots of things - I can provide more research if you like that supports this. For an example, if you stopped feeding all the grains and corn to the animals and feed this to Humans, there would be no world hunger for 50 lifetimes. Same is true for water - there are children dying out there due to lack of food and water. Yet Humans feed this to cattle, destroy that one life to feed 10 people, and that is it.That is appauling - as I mentioned I can do more articles and present all the facts to you - but please do not be apathetic in your appraoch - study - become wiser and you then you will know the truths.

Albertacowpoke - I can not be a voice for other vegans - though as I am, I do not have any of these products.

The livestock will take care of themselves.

Thank you for you comments Mr. Albertacowpoke - always appreciated.

Always appreciate your comments, thank you Mr. Paschen.

I appreciate everyones comment, and always humbled to be apart of all discussions.

Please, I am hear only as a voice and to be relay a message. It is my only ambition to spread peace and love in a world that sometimes is very horrible and cruel.

I appreciate that everyone has a view, and opnions and choices to make in their lives. And they are yours and yours alone. There is  no point in anyone forcing anyone doing anything. Through me, relying the facts to you is all that I am doing. If you take them on board - that is great - if you do not - than that is fine too. That is what makes all Humans so amazing - the ability to give life - and the ability to it too.

Thank you all so very much. If my tone at any times comes across corse or rough, I apoligise. It is not in my nature - Interacting more and more, I find that all people want to do the right thing - though apathy takes over - and it is a ugly habit. Just don't be. You are all so beautiful and amazing. Thank you all very much.

Lilihoody: I don't want to disturb your cozy world, but I have seen the evidence from scientists who have analysed the Mongolian diet (heavy on sheep meat) and the Inuit (heavy on fish and seal blubber) and found them to be highly nutritious despite having very low quantities of vegetables and fruits. You can get vitamins and minerals from meats. The secret for these peoples is of course exercise and reasonable portions. Mongolians traditionally did not eat vast quantities of meat. What gives meat eating a bad name is the wasteful modern way of life. But two of your points are wrong: one, that eating meat in and of itself is bad for you, and two, that raising and killing animals for food will always lead to the destruction of the planet. I think you will find over-population is the problem.

Uwe Paschen

Sheep meat is an exceptional meat though Iffy, as well as Sheep milk, those are the healthiest meat and dairy you can eat as a Human. Not the same then Beef or deer and the worth meat for humans to eat would be Pork.

Further the climate that these people leave in and the conditions are rather harsh and they burn far more Calories in a day due to their life stiles and climate then a New Yorker would in Week.

Last but not least their life expectancy is about 20 bellow that of Western Countries.

All, things need to be put into perspective. Even over population being a problem as you said it is its management and abused that cause the excessive Pollution.

Remember that most of this pollution comes from the Western World and with in the western World the worth Polluter is North America, we cause the greatest damage being a minority.

Africa cause the least pollution and has some of the highest population growth and over population on a global level.

10% of humanity causes about 70% of the total pollution. That is the real problem.

Thank you Iffy - I do not know enough about your views on the mongolians, so I will not comment.

Perhaps it is best you do not suggest that my comments are wrong - for the research conducted on the harms of meat is undeniable - leading a vegetarian diet is much healthier for you, and by leading a plant based diet you are doing so much in reducing your carbon footprint - the most out of anything.

There is plenty of information out there - I thought you might enjoy this site, if you want to do some research of your own.

Eating vegetables is the only solution. Those that research and understand the rammifications of meat consumption would not debate such an issue.

The evidence is clear. Stop killing - stop eating meat - be vegetarian.

Hey Sara Star you can check out a piece i did a little while ago on the livestock industry.

http://my.nowpublic.com/environment/livestock-industry-destroying-our-planet

cool.

Iffy

LilHoody: I am not your enemy: I agree with you on the following:

1) animal welfare

2) factory farming is very harmful

3) we need to eat less meat and more vegetables and pulses

4) people need to use their bodies more and walk and cycle

5) if people choose, go ahead and eat a vegetarian diet. But having meat and fish in moderate amounts will not harm you.

I think there is a common ground, much more than you may think.

1
Phobos

I find that eating vegetables creates massive amounts of methane gas that I release so I tend to think there would be another situation caused by the planet going vegetarian.

1
LilHoody

Ha ha - yeah I agree Iffy - lots of very good points.

Its very cool being apart of discussions and talking about opinions and others points of view. Its even more fun when we get to agree - from time to time.

Thanks for the comments. Very cool.

Oh well, things probably won't matter any way - if you want to be a happy vegetarian that is great - if not - so be it.
