Ophrah Winfrey's dog Solomon has died at the age of 14.
This is Oprah's third dog to die in the past 17 months.
Oprah Winfrey is in mourning after the death of her beloved pet cocker spaniel Solomon, RADAR has learned. The 14-year-old dog - a Christmas present from boyfriend Stedman Graham in 1994 -- died on October 27 from kidney failure after months of dialysis treatment.
Solomon is the third of Oprah's dogs to die agonizing deaths in the last 17 months: In March, Sophie, another cocker spaniel died - also of kidney failure - and in May last year her 2-year-old golden retriever Gracie choked to death on a small plastic ball.

Solomon spent the first 6 months of his life on the bed beside me before he went to his forever home with Oprah. I grieve his loss with her. He was my first brown cocker born under our Hyer Luv prefix. Rest in peace my dear son Hyer Luv's Break N Nu Brown. I will see you at the bridge. Hyest Luv, Sam

How beautiful, Sam! Through your tribute written here and Oprah sharing her pain with the world, many of us also mourn Solomon's loss. The fact that Oprah lost not only Solomon, but two other beautiful friends within a short time is very tragic. God bless you both.

Oprah, I am so sorry to hear the loss of your beautiful Solomon. I have a cat, she's 16 years old and I love her to death, she is with me all the time. She also has kidney problems now but so far is doing real well. I love dogs as well and have had many through the years. I know what it's like to lose them, they are part of your life, sometimes they are your life. Again, I am so sorry for your loss, he was just such a gorgeous animal, the only brown cocker spaniel I have ever seen was yours. God Bless.
Sincerely,
Trudy

Thank you for sharing, Trudy. Some people don't understand the grief we feel about our furry friends, and that makes me feel sorry for them, because they missed something grand.

Pootz, that was an unkind thing to write. I am sorry you never cared for a pet so much. Do you feel the same way about people? Lots of folks who have no empathy for pets don't like people very much either.

Oprah, I am so sorry for your loss. We had a golden retriever named Bailey who passed away 4 years ago, he was 7. We had to put him to sleep, he caught leptospirosis ( a rat disease). He was gone in 3 days. Now we have another golden and his name is Clifford. He's 4 and he's so spoiled. But you know all about that. One leaves and another makes us smile. God works in mysterious ways! My prayers are with you - I know how heavy your heart is right now.
Sincerely, Linda

Oh my! Those golden retrievers are like fine art, aren't they? They are so beautiful that one enjoys just looking at them. No wonder so many star dogs are golden retrievers! It is hard to be sad around a doggie like Clifford. You will always miss Bailey. One dog never takes the place of another. But Clifford took the edge off your pain. I am so glad!

Its so sad to lose your dog or cat no matter how old they are. I lost my beloved 13 year old greyhound last year and even though I have 5 other dogs (2 new since then), there is still an ache in my heart for him. Oprah, fame doesn't help the pain but everyone who has ever loved a pet knows how much it hurts and we are sorry for you.

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be not forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
Grief not, rather find,
Strength in what remains behind,
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be,
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of Human suffering,
In the faith that looks through death
In years that bring philophic mind.
William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)
