The Oscars red carpet 2011 had some surprises, with some stars playing it safe.

Hailee Steinfeld impressed on the red carpet with her Marchesa dress, and host Anne Hathaway made a statement in a bright red Valentino gown.

Helena Bonham Carter stayed pretty much true to form, but other stars, either nominated or not, came out dressed in their finest for one of the most anticipated nights of the year in the entertainment industry.
