Ottawa's Mayfair Theatre Re-Opening Night a Smash Success

The Mayfair's re-opening was a great success.  However, I can't vouch for the evening from the inside because I couldn't get in.  The article says that "at least 100 people" were turned away, but there were many more who wanted to get in, but walked away when they saw the line.

The evening began with a showing of some short films sponsored by the Independent Film-makers Cooperative of Ottawa.  Those outside the Mayfair got to trickle in as viewers who came just for the shorts left.  I wasn't so lucky.

Hundreds of film fans lined up last night for the Mayfair Theatre's first screenings under its new management. The new owners of the 76-year-old Bank Street movie theatre had to turn away at least 100 people as a capacity crowd settled in for an evening of short films and a special screening of the 1927 film Metropolis.

Co-owner and Ottawa filmmaker, Lee Demarbre, was overjoyed with the success, saying he felt 'like a kid in a candy store.'

This is great - I'm glad so many people came out!
