Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series this year is focusing on the topic of “Intersections of Sexuality and Faith in Film.”

Part of the series includes "Saint of 9/11", a documentary about Father Mychal Judge, a chaplain with the Fire Department of New York who lost his life outside the World Trade Center while caring for victims of the violent September 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

Compassionate champion of the needy and forgotten, beloved fire department chaplain, and rousing Irish-American balladeer and iconoclast, Mychal Judge was a humble parish priest who wrestled with his own private demons while touching others in powerful and miraculous ways. A gay man who loved his priestly work, Judge knew the pain of loss and suffering. “Saint of 9/11” weaves interviews with friends, colleagues and congregants with archival footage to portray his life as a spiritual adventure, where alcoholism and sexuality were acknowledged as part of his humanity.

The documentary “Saint of 9/11,” will be screened at Ithaca College, located in New York State, on Thursday, Feb. 12th. More information is available at the source.

harringtola, you are very welcome! Thank you for reading, commenting, and for the recommendation!

Unfortunately, I must admit too that I had never heard of Father Mychal Judge. I happened to be reviewing NowPublic's Sexuality - scan (it led me to this story), and I am glad that I did. He, most certainly, was a very brave man!
