The exclusive dating site BeautifulPeople.com is making headlines for shunning members who gained weight over the holidays. The network has reportedly ditched 5,000 members for piling extra pounds over Christmas. BeautifulPeople.com is a dating platform that brands itself as the "sexiest website in the world." It has always been pretty straight up about its terms of use, the number one requirement on which is being attractive. The site says its basic premise of accepting beautiful people only might not be politically correct, but it is "honest."

The supremacist idea behind BeautifulPeople.com stirred up a lot of controversy from the get-go, but the move against fatter members saw BeautifulPeople.com make news again. The founder of the site says, "letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model." Perhaps not surprisingly, the most members booted for becoming heavier were from the United States, the U.K. and Canada. The service is available in ten different languages.

To become a member of BeautifulPeople.com, applicants are required to be voted in by existing members of the opposite sex. Members rate all new applicants over a 48 hour period based on whether or not they find the applicant ‘beautiful’. Should applicants secure enough positive votes from members, they will be granted a full membership to the BeautifulPeople Network. But, who knew the existing members were not safe and could be axed if their looks change?

It is being reported that the network administrators scanned the pictures that their members posted after the holidays to single out members who gained too much weight, dumping 5,000 of them in the process, which begs the question of how many members were there to begin with if so many members got ditched for getting a little fatter over the holidays.

The shunned members did have a chance to try their luck again, however. They were eligible to re-apply and join the community again, but only a few hundred were reinstated. Over 5000 members were banned permanently though. With such a drastic member turn-off, it seems BeautifulPeople.com is not afraid to run out of cuties. Interestingly, the network took action after other existing members complained that some of the members let loose over the holidays and did not deserve to remain in the member database anymore.

I checked out their site, it's down because of the traffic intake of visitors due to covrage in the media.

Dear member,

BeautifulPeople.com has launched globally.
The launch is being extensively covered by the global media.

The huge media coverage is currently generating so much traffic on our servers that we have had to limit some users from using the site.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

We're excited to welcome you, so please check back later.

Thanks
The BeautifulPeople Team

Why not just set up an alternative dating site and call it "Butt Uglies at the Trough? " Then the beautiful people wouldn't be allowed to join!

That'll teach em!

Vangroovy membership would do well, when one has Bill Gates money, the Hunchback of Notre Dame would be in Brad Pitt league of beautiful amongst Vangroovy ladies if not all ladies.

20 something Anna Nicole Smith and 90 year Billionaire Howard Marshall is proof of that!

Come on, men and women can be pretty shallow, its in their genes, the media has tons of dating horror stories of men and women fudging their age, marital status, weight, height occupation, hair color.  A simple google search will confirm this.,

Instead of beautiful people it should be called Shallow Hal dating.

Everyone including the fatties get what they deserve if looking for love on the internet.
