The famous Oxford Street Christmas lights have already been turned on in London by actor Jim Carrey. This year the theme is Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and Jim Carey is staring in the new film adaptation.
British actor Colin Firth switched on the Christmas lights in Regent Street, while Bob Hoskins led the celebrations at St. Paul's Cathedral. Both actors are also in the new Christmas Carol film.
A world record was also broken with th emost people singing a Christmas carol, which was led by Andrea Bocelli and the choir of St. Paul's Cathedral.
The switch-on of the lights was due to be followed the world premiere of Disney's film A Christmas Carol, which stars Carrey, Firth and Hoskins, at three London cinemas.
The lights will be on every day until January 6th 2010.
