The Proteas earlier resumed play at 177 for seven in the 39th over after a rain delay in the second one day international against Pakistan in Pretoria on Friday.
Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Irfan had reduced the hosts to 62 for five as he claimed four for 33 in a fierce-some spell of fast bowling on a wicket that has variable bounce.
Farhaan Behardien (58) scored his maiden limited-over half-century before falling victim to Mohammad Hafeez shortly before the break.
Robin Petersen was 39 not out and Kyle Abbott was unbeaten on four.
Before Behardien came to the crease, the Proteas were faltering under a fierce onslaught from Pakistan as had they stuttered to 107/6 in the second one-day international at Centurion.
Pakistan have taken the wickets of Hashim Amla, Colin Ingram, AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith, Faf du Plessis and Ryan McLaren and Farhaan Behardien, with four wickets from Mohammed Irfan in the second one-day international in Centurion.
AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.
The Proteas made one change to the team that won the first ODI in Bloemfontein, with Dale Steyn coming in for the injured Rory Kleinveldt who is out with a rib-joint injury.
