Pakistan started off in sensational fashion as Mohammad Irfan picked up two wickets in the first two balls of the match. Graeme Smith and Farhaan Behardien also departed cheaply before AB de Villiers and David Miller strung a 117 run stand for the fifth wicket. Both batsmen registered fifties on a wicket that was not easy to bat on. In the Batting powerplay, Saeed Ajmal wreaked havoc as he picked up three wickets. Some lusty hitting from Robin Peterson, including three fours in the final over off Junaid Khan, ensured South Africa reached 234/9. Pakistan will have to bat sensibly on this sluggish wicket.
That's a good last over for South Africa, but it has taken them to what is a fighting total at best. After losing Amla and Ingram to the first two balls of the match, South Africa were always playing catch-up. AB de Villiers and David Miller threatened to cancel that advantage with a 115-run partnership, but Saeed Ajmal undid all that with three wickets in the overs between 30 and 40. Somehow, the tail stuck in and took them South Africa to 234.
