Paula Abdul is quitting American Idol. The pop star and former Laker Girl, who has been a judge since the popular reality show's first season, was renegotiating her contract when talks broke down, and has decided to leave the show. Meanwhile, Kara DioGuardi, who was last season's fourth judge, is returning to the show's ninth season as a fulltime member of the judging panel.
After quite a bit of Internet speculation, it's official.
“I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent,” she wrote, “but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon.”
Fox had no immediate comment.
