U-MV170 - Pavement - Cut Your Hair

Pavement reunion! Rumors have cropped up about a Pavement reunion for years, but this time it's for real. Pavement is getting back together.

Since Pavement split up, Stephen Malkmus has released four albums with The Jicks. Pavement, who had their heyday back when Nirvana was an "alternative act", split up in 1999 and are reuniting for a benefit show (well, at least one show) for New York's Summerstage concert series.

According to reliable sources, it's finally happening in 2010! There will be multiple, possibly four, nights of shows at NYC's Central Park Summerstage in September of that year. That could be part of a tour. That could be the end of a tour, the middle of a tour, or even the beginning of a tour, but it seems reasonable to speculate that they might make their official comeback at Coachella in April.

I saw Pavement in 1992, at the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego. Also playing were Sonic Youth and Mudhoney. It was an alt-grunge evening for the ages. I recall Pavement's set being very disorganized and booze-oriented, with the drummer throwing his sticks in the air and never being able to catch them.
