NP Rank:
Pecos River Ranch Owned by Val Kilmer To Be a Bed-and-Breakfast?
New Mexico Ranch Owned by Val Kilmer May Not be Renovated if the Actor's Neighbors Have Anything To Do With it
Val Kilmer applied for permits to turn his Pecos River Ranch in Santa Fe New Mexico in to an upscale bed-and-breakfast, reports the NY Daily News, but his neighbors are trying to block the project. They are not concerned about noise violations but about comments he made in a 2003 Rolling Stone interview.
Val Kilmer (who some are saying seems to have gotten a bit fat - see photo to the right) called his neighborhood "the homicide capital of the Southwest" and then went on to say "80 percent of the people in my country are drunk." He also said:
"We shoot the automatic weapons at the trespassers and people a different color than us."
He said his words were misquoted and taken out of context.
Then in 2005, Kilmer was interviewed by Esquire magazine and said the following about Vietnam veterans when he was asked what it was like to play one:
"I understand it more," the magazine quoted Kilmer. "It's an actor's job. A guy who's lived through the horror of Vietnam has not spent his life preparing his mind for it. He's some punk. Most guys were borderline criminal or poor, and that's why they got sent to Vietnam. It was all the poor, wretched kids who got beat up by their dads, guys who didn't get on the football team, couldn't finagle a scholarship.
When asked about it, Kilmer said:
"I didn't make that statement. ... I have nothing but praise and respect for veterans."
Neighbors said that all they want is Kilmer to apologize to them for his comments.
A hearing with the Board of County Commissioners was held last month and according to the Wall Street Journal, about six locals and veterans demanded an apology and now Val Kilmer has been asked to appear in person at the next meeting on June 23.
"It's a situation that's pretty volatile," said David Salazar, the commission chair. "The opportunity is there for him to come and set the record straight."

AND as usual when Val apologized even if his comments were taken out of context, the idiots of the area still want his blood. WHO cares what an actor says in public or private anyways..?? DO people scrutinize you the same way when you say something in public or private that might offend others..?? I think not. MOST of the complainers go after these big fish money makers so that they can hope to get a piece of the hard earned dough that comes with celebrityship of famous people.
WHAT a bunch of Pansies the complainers are. SO what if someone of importance says something right or wrong that might offend you. ARE you THAT much of a sissy that you can't let it roll off of your back and go on your merry little way..??Good grief people..GROW UP and quit making a bunch of nothing out of a little something..!!
I'm sure Mr. Kilmer's enormous taxes that hes paid for years to the state and county have benefitted you. Quit whinning like a bunch of school kids and leave the man alone.
You remind me of children that pout when they don't get their way all the time for every little thing.
Mr. Kilmer has given you a public apology for statements made a LONG TIME AGO and whether or not they were taken out of context isn't really any of your business anyways......get a grip on yourselves and get along with your life.!!
The man is a gifted actor and fellow citizen of your community...give him some respect for New Mexico's sake. DON'T always jump on the bandwagon just because someone "thinks" they've been wronged.
GEEEEEZ..!!
