Pee-wee makes a prank call

Pee Wee Herman is back! Paul Reubens is resurrecting his infamously creepy children's-show character for a enw stage act and film. The Pee Wee Herman Show will run for November 8th for a limited engagement at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. Pee Wee's Playhouse: The Movie is currently in production.

Paul Reubens invented Pee Wee Herman when he was a member of The Groundlings improv group; the character began life as an X-rated goofball, and was never meant to be performed for kids. (Pee Wee's first filmed appearance is in a Cheech & Chong movie). The Pee Wee Herman Show debuted on HBO, and continued as a touring live act before Pee Wee's Big Adventure came out in 1984. After that, CBS aired Pee Wee's Playhouse, the kids' show we all have seared into our brains.

In 1991, Paul Reubens was arrested for mastrubating in an adult cinema, which pretty much spelt the end of his children's show career.

Pee Wee Herman only made a few appearances after that, and Paul Reubens has since appeared in non-Pee Wee roles, including appearances in (the original) Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mystery Men. His TV appearances include Pushing Daisies and 30 Rock.

According to a statement, The Pee-Wee Herman Show will feature Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis, Jambi, Chairry and all your favorites.
"It's time," Reubens said of Pee-wee's comeback. "My Pee-wee suit and red bow tie are at the ready -- and this is proof that white shoes are cool past Labor Day."

... Heard any good jokes lately?
