Perez Hilton is set to publish sponsored tweets over Twitter.

Well, it was only a matter of time. And if anyone was to go there, it would be Hilton, founder of the notorious celebrity king-(un)maker website PerezHilton.

The news was revealed by BlogAds CEO Henry Copeland, who manages operations and ad sales for Hilton's website.

Under the agreements, Hilton this summer will post Tweets about the products or services involved for a week on his Twitter feed, which Copeland said has more than 1 million followers. "Perez is a great springboard for anyone who needs a springboard onto Twitter," said Copeland, who claims that a link by the notorious blogger can send 10,000 to 20,000 new visitors to a site in an eye blink.

In addition to the sponsored tweets themselves--which will bring in a hefty six figures--there will also be various tie-ins from the Twitter campaign to PerezHilton.com, such as interactive ads. The identity of companies advertising through Hilton on Twitter remains undisclosed, but will purportedly remain "aligned with the pop culture, trend-focused content" of Hilton's website.

So that now makes two barriers that Twitter has crossed: first into the realm of ghost tweets, and now into sponsored tweet territory. What's next? Patented tweets? Tweets for lease? Realtors take note: the housing market may be going down, but to see Hilton work it, Twitter real estate is hot to trot.
