The technology behind magazine scratch-and-sniff stickers is reinventing itself by being applied to make scented clothing.

Researchers in Portugal are reporting development of a new type of "microcapsule" filled with perfume and embedded in fabric for production of scented suits, socks, undergarments and other clothing.

The microcapsules currently used in magazine scratch-and-sniffs contain formaldehyde, a carcinogen and an environmental hazard. The research group from Portugal has found a substitute for the nasty substance, and suggests using polyurethane-urea, which they claim is a lot more environmentally friendly. Laboratory tests show that improved microcapsules show prolonged fragrance and durability.

So with body odours no longer a concern, what will we get to complain about on the bus?

Personally I think the worst is body odour AND some sort of fragrance combined. It creates this crazy combo of this weird smell that I cannot stand. Anyways, sounds like a good idea!
