Phil Harris Discovery Channel Tribute: Funeral Details Pending
Phil Harris, known for being the captain of the Cornelia Marie on Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch who died yesterday, will be the subject of a Discovery Channel tribute for all the work he has done for the show and the channel.
Thom Beers, executive producer of the show flew to see Harris' family yesterday and although no concrete plan is in place yet, a special on Phil is going to go ahead. Discovery Channel confirmed the news.
Season six of Deadliest Catch was shot from last November until last month, so when the series returns, Phil will be a part of it.
"He'll be a big part of the season and the series," Beers said. "But this is a huge loss to the series. The fate and the future of the Cornelia Marie and crew (are) up in the air. I'm flying up to meet with his sons and figure out what to do going forward."
Funeral arrangements for Phil Harris are still pending and no information has been released about that yet.
His work on the show will be missed greatly however, and he will be missed most by his family, especially his two sons Jake and Josh.
"What was fascinating for me was seeing this big rough-and-tumble guy reunited with his sons through work," Beers said. "He had to adjust to all of a sudden being a dad again. It was fun to see the trials and tribulations of raising these two boys in a work environment."
