On Saturday March 7th in Portland, Oregon, Playground will be hosting “Sol Invictus” - a benefit party for the group’s free summertime outdoor park events.
The name Sol Invictus comes from the name of a Roman Sun God, meaning “unconquered sun.” The idea is that the early March gathering will serve as a celebration of the returning of the sun to our northern latitudes.
Playground is a not-for-profit event that focuses on free, outdoor park parties for families and friends. The first Playground outdoor event took place in September, 2007. There have been 4 such events so far and Playground plans on having 3 more in 2009. Most of them take place in Cathedral Park, under the St. John’s Bridge in North Portland. The events run from Noon until dark and feature DJ’s, Live PA acts, dancing and picnicking all in a pleasant park atmosphere by the Willamette River. They are free, all-ages, and open to the public.
In order to cover the costs of permits, insurance and other miscellaneous expenses, Playground traditionally holds an indoor dance party in the Spring with a suggested donation at the door. This year that event is Sol Invictus, and the Playground crew is pulling out all the stops to put on a fabulous, exciting event. Featured will be:
-9 hours of dance music on 2 separate stages.-11 DJ’s spanning several music genres throughout the night.-Teahouse / Edible Art by Open Heart Café-Visuals by VJ Welkin -Live digital painting by Ryan Johnson-Live oil painting by David Heskin and Aloria Weaver
