Sherman, Texas is going all out to get their patrol officers bilingual. Their plan is to first use Rosetta Stone’s Program, then move to formal classes at the college, then -

In addition to the work on the computer and in the classroom, members of the Hispanic community, like Lupe’s Tamales owner John Arriazola, will be invited to ride along with the officers themselves to better understand one another.

It's great we (police) are learning Spanish to maintain our safety and be able to communicate with the growing Spanish speaking population.  I am an officer in Colorardo and started an online class about 6 month ago with SpanishOnPatrol.com I really like it.  It is so easy to learn the vocabulary I need for my job.  I recommend it to anyone in our field needing Spanish skills.  It is not as expensive as rosetta stone and it is dedicated to the vocabulary we need as law enforcement officers.
