NP Rank:
Porn Star With HIV Did Not Infect Any Other Porn Star
The Porn Star Who Tested Positive for HIV Last Month Did Not Infect Any Other Porn Star or Anyone From Their Personal Life
The San Fernando Valley clinic has confirmed that after two rounds of tests they did not find any other adult film actor that contracted the virus. The porn actor tested positive in early October at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) in Sherman Oaks, and as a result many adult film companies stopped production on their sets so all their actors could be tested and cleared.
The porn actor has not been named, but has just been referred to 'Patient Zeta'.
The announcement said that AIM officials had completed testing of the patient's sex partners, "from both personal and professional life," and that all tested HIV-negative "on two occasions, using multiple testing methods."
"It has been established that Patient Zeta acquired the virus through private, personal activity and there was no transmission of the HIV virus from Patient Zeta to anyone else," according to the announcement.
It is not known how Patient Zeta contracted the virus and AIM has been criticized by AIDS activists and state officials who say the clinic did not report the positive diagnosis quickly enough.
They likened this situation to Darren James who contracted HIV in 2004 and spread it to three female porn actors before it was detected. A female porn star was also diagnosed with the virus last year.
This brings up the issue of whether porn actors should wear condoms at all times.
AIM officials said the most recent testing "affirms the efficacy of AIM Healthcare Foundation's testing protocols, as voluntarily implemented by the adult entertainment industry," adding that "it is regrettable but inevitable that people continue to acquire the HIV virus in their personal life."
