Preparing to cross the English Channel:Yves « FusionMan » Rossy flies successfully over 35 kilometres by Marcel Pellerin

This is part of a press release i received from Yves  Rossy's  'FusionMan' team. i'll be paying close attention this September to see what happens. I also heard that being able to take off from the ground is another big step Rossy hopes to accomplish.

On Wednesday 20th August Yves Rossy, also known as « FusionMan », successfullycompleted a crucial test flight bringing him one step closer to becoming the first person inhistory to carry out a solo, jet-propelled flight across the English Channel. This flighthappened after several failed attempts, due to electronic interference problems.

Using his new single jet-powered wing, unveiled in May, Yves flew for 10 minutes over adistance of more than 35 kilometres - equivalent to the distance from Calais (France) to Dover(UK) and Louis Bleriot’s starting and arrival points 99 years ago.

For his test flight, Yves jumped out of a plane with his wing above the town of Bex(Switzerland). The “birdman” flew in a straight line to Villeneuve, before turning back to Bexairfield - a distance long enough to allow him to fly the width of the famous Anglo-Frenchchannel. Speaking of his success, Rossy commented: “Everything went well, it was awesome,it’s my longest flight with this wing. If there are no technical problems, it’s OK for theEnglish Channel; I can’t wait for this next challenge!”

Yves’ daredevil Channel crossing is scheduled for the end of September, ideally on the 24th(weather permitting). The event will be broadcast live and exclusively by NationalGeographic Channel in 165 countries, in Jetman Live and will also be streamed live online atwww.natgeotv.com. In the U.S., footage from Rossy's flight will air on National GeographicChannel in primetime that evening. The event will also air on TSR (Switzerland) and France3(France).

Additionally, a book charting the achievement of the first man to fly under a single jet-powered wing is in production, scheduled for release at the end of the year
